Improve your English & communication.
Practical, no-jargon tips to help you speak and write with confidence — from a Mumbra company that trains people every single day. New tips every week.
Knowing it isn’t enough. You have to be able to say it.
You can study for years, but the person who can explain their value clearly is the one who gets the job, the promotion, and the customer. Good communication is a skill — and like any skill, it’s built with small daily fixes. That’s what this page is for.
Fix these today.
“I am agree” → “I agree”
“Agree” is already a verb, so it doesn’t need “am”. Same with “I am understand” → “I understand”.
“Discuss about” → “Discuss”
“Discuss” already means “talk about”, so “about” is extra. Just say “Let’s discuss it.”
“One of my friend” → “friends”
After “one of”, the noun is always plural: one of my friends, one of the reasons.
there · their · they’re
there = a place · their = belongs to them · they’re = they are.
your · you’re
your = belongs to you · you’re = you are. “You’re welcome”; “your bag”.
its · it’s
its = belongs to it · it’s = it is. “It’s raining”; “the dog wagged its tail”.
“Since” needs “have been”
Not “I am working here since 2020”. Say “I have been working here since 2020”. Use “have been …-ing” with “since”.
“Revert” isn’t “reply”
“I’ll revert” doesn’t mean “I’ll reply”. Say “I’ll get back to you”.
“Do the needful” → say it
Instead of “do the needful”, say exactly what you need: “Please process this today”.
Three habits that make you sound sure of yourself.
Slow down
Rushing makes you sound nervous. A calm pace sounds confident — and buys you a moment to think.
Use short sentences
Long sentences trip you up. Short, clear ones are easier to say and easier to follow.
Stop apologising
Don’t open with “sorry, my English is not good”. Just speak. If people understand you, you’re doing fine.
